30 Days Till 30.
Lesson 21: Strive for excellence. Build character.

Calling all female entrepreneurs!

I’ve heard it said that character is doing what is right when nobody is looking.

Maybe it is just me, but it seem as though personal excellence is highly undervalued these days. People have come to expect mediocrity.

It seems that most people are simply happy to just “get by.”

Unfortunately, if you plan to reach your maximum potential, accepting a life of mediocrity won’t get you there. Take look at the ultra successful people in this world and you will see that they are simply the best at what they do. There is only one Steve Jobs, one Sam Walton, one Rolls Royce, and one Ben & Jerry’s (can we say yummm).

These large corporate examples may seem like an apple to oranges comparison to you, but they are pillars of what it means to operate in excellence.

Let me ask you, how many people do you know who complain about not having or doing what they want? And, how many of those people are going above and beyond to reach for more? So many people dedicate their time to looking for an easy way out, looking for a get rich quick fix, or looking for a magic pill. Let me tell you a secret. There is no such thing.

I have a friend who desperately wants to climb the corporate ladder to an executive position some day. This friend chronically complains about her supervisor’s lack of intelligence. She complains about her “annoying” co-workers. She complains about the company’s dysfunctional systems. And, she always seems to think she could do a much better job.

This same friend gets to work at least 5 minutes late every day. She takes an hour and ten minute lunch break, and spends most of her afternoon on Facebook. Oh, and wouldn’t you know, she’s out the door by 5:01 every day—4:59 on Fridays.

Basically, she’s on the fast track to never seeing an executive position in her life!

Maybe her current supervisor isn’t brilliant, but unfortunately they are in the authority position. Instead of bringing her negative attitude to her work, she would probably be better served to focus on how she can bring her great ideas to the top by working harder. She should probably commit to doing more than is expected of her. And she should be willing to make herself available when one else will.

That would make her a person of excellence.

I’ve found that this principle of excellence is critical to my success as a young female entrepreneur. You cannot produce average products and services and expect to have a million dollar business. If excellence isn’t central to your business model, you will simply become another me-too couldn’t hack it business owner.

If you plan to be as successful female entrepreneur online then you must pledge to produce quality products that meet the needs of your target audience. If not, don’t get in the game. It’s already flooded with bozos.

However, if you do apply the principle of excellence to everything you do. You will have more opportunity in life than you know what to do with. That is the advantage of truly seeking excellence.

Ninety percent of your competition is putting forth a half-baked effort. Set yourself up for success. Always maintain your integrity. The world needs women of excellence to lead the way.
